Nature Definition |
Nature photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict observations from all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archeology, in such a fashion that a well informed person will be able to identify the subject material and to certify as to its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality. Human elements shall not be present, except on the rare occasion where those human elements enhance the nature story. The presence of scientific bands on wild animals is acceptable. Photographs of artificially produced hybrid plants or animals, mounted specimens, or obviously set arrangements, are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the photographic statement. No pictorial elements may be moved, cloned, added deleted, rearranged or combined. No manipulation or modification is permitted except resizing, cropping, selective lightening or darkening, sharpening, and restoration of original color to the scene. Any adjustments must appear natural. NOTE: Human elements are not limited to people in the image. Artifacts made by humans, such as roads, fences, signs and buildings, are also considered human elements. |

Wildlife Definition |
Authentic wildlife is defined as one or more organisms living free and unrestrained in a natural or adopted habitat. Therefore, photographs of zoo or game farm animals are not eligible for submitting in the Wildlife section. NOTE: Wildlife subjects are not limited to birds and mammals. Insects, reptiles, amphibians, sea creatures and botany are also eligible wildlife subjects. The main subjects must be living organisms therefore Landscapes are not eligible wildlife subjects. |

Awards |
Open Section Wildlife Section If the judges feel there is no image worthy of one or more of the Nature Division awards, that award will not be awarded. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Titles |
Descriptive titles are recommended. Titles will be read aloud during judging so incorrectly identified subjects can hurt your score. Please limit titles to 35 characters including spaces and punctuation. The Entry Form software will clip any excess characters resulting in an incomplete title that could cause you problems when applying for a star rating. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Borders |
Borders are allowed for nature images but not recommended. If you do use a border, we recommend you limit it to a thin stroke that separates the image area from the black projection background. Decorative borders that draw attention from the nature story are discouraged and could hurt your scores. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Color Space |
Using sRGB color space for your .jpg files is recommended as it will provide better quality under the projection conditions used for judging the exhibition and producing the exhibition show. Black & White images are allowed in Nature. Black & White images must be monochrome with no colors. Infrared Black & White images are not allowed in Nature. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Image Size |
Maximum digital image width (horizontal) is 1024 pixels. Maximum digital image height (vertical) is 768 pixels. Images larger in either dimension will be rejected by the entry software. Smaller images are acceptable but place you at a disadvantage. We recommend you save your .jpg images using the maximum image quality. All slides must be in 2x2 inch mounts. Slides must bear the name and address of the entrant, the title of the image and a number (1-4) to correspond to the Slide Entry Form. The mount must have a prominent thumbspot in the lower left corner as properly hand viewed to assure proper orientation during projection. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
File Names |
You do not have to follow any naming convention for your jpg files when you enter. The on-line entry form will properly rename your files to meet the needs of our exhibition software. We recommend saving your .jpg images in a special folder on you computer using the image title as the file name. That will make it easier to pick the correct image when using the Entry Form browser to attach your images. |
